Although we saw several new lambs near Biggar on our way home from Dawyck, this little one is closer to home, on the way from the Flumlet's school, in a field rented to the sheep farmer.
We stood watching for quite a while, admiring its jazzy coat, but became a little alarmed as it appeared to be caught in a thicket of tufty grass, all on its own in the middle of the field. One of the ewes was watching also, standing alert but did not approach.
This put us in a dilemma - should we investigate and try to 'help' or leave well alone.? On closer observation it appeared that the jacket belonged to its big brother, as it hung down at the back such that the wee one's back legs were inside and treading on it every time it tried to walk, so it made no progress at all.
It was in the same position when we left for home so we alerted B to contact the owner of the field to inform the farmer what was going on. Hopefully by now he has made whatever changes are necessary and the poor wee thing either reunited with its mother or tucked up in the Aga and bottle-fed. However, I fear the worst.
By way of distraction, the extra is of the usual view in late afternoon light.
