Opera view
We’re staying for 3 nights in The Continental Hotel in Saigon, said to be the oldest hotel in Vietnam. It’s the 4-storey building with the red tile roof in the middle distance. We paid a small premium for an ‘Opera House view’ room - it’s the ornate building in the right foreground.
Graham Green wrote the novel The Quiet American while staying in the Continental Hotel in the early 1950s. Wikipedia says the novel implicitly questions the foundations of growing American involvement in Vietnam in the 1950s. I’m rereading the book while we are here.
