RIP Eleanor

Hubby got up early and went to the lab to have his blood drawn prior to his check up next week. I forgot that was his plan and was quite worried when I could not find him this morning. Just as I remembered to look at our calendar for a clue, he drove into the garage. But I was off kilter all morning. We had breakfast and dressed for the funeral. Since Eleanor’s husband Ammon is our Deacon, we had four Deacons and four priests at the funeral Mass. Her ancestors can be traced back to the Catholics who originally came from England to settle in Maryland. She also had a strong life long devotion to Our Blessed Mother. It seemed appropriate that her life would be celebrated on “Maryland Day” which is also the Feast of the Annunciation. Father Andrew White intentionally waited until this feast day to land on St. Clement’s Island in 1634. Eleanor asked her husband to speak at her funeral and he honored her wishes. Last night and today, Deacon Ammon gave the homilies, tying them into the readings and how Eleanor lived a holy life dedicated to Our Lady and her Son Jesus. She led Deacon to our Faith through her exemplary living and was a fine example for the rest of us. Only once or twice did his voice break. Our prayer group, of which they were members, sat together just like at Dave’s funeral last week. Our bond is strong. Our friend Cece and I are the only two in our group who aren’t widows. Plus we have two widowers. I guess it’s that time in our lives where we see each other most often at funerals. The reception was catered by one of the best cooks in the county. How hard it was to remain on my diet but I think the calorie intake was low. Hubby and I had to leave the repast early to pick up Brooklyn. While we waited, I sat my glass of ice water on the dash (immediately forgetting it) and tried to find an appropriate quote for this entry. When hubby put the car in gear, all of that icy water landed in my lap. What a shock to the system. I am so foolish! We came home and I quickly changed clothes. I was planning to wash laundry anyway so no harm done. We are finished for the day. It will be sunny and warm tomorrow so I will plant my gift from my sister then and work on more flower gardens. Wishing you special bonds of friendship. Stay safe. Thanks for your visit. “The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life.” – Corrie Ten Boom
