Cuckoo in the nest...
Alan decided he wanted to have a quiet day today and I felt exactly the same :-)
David was playing golf with his Wednesday group so just myself to worry about for lunch. I then watched today's video tutorial for my painting course and thought pretty straightforward. How wrong was I?!
The focus today was on colour mixing. Katie (the artist) directed us to mix some phthalo blue with some cadmium orange to create a brown/grey mix, so I did except the colour I created was bright green!! Tried again, same result! Eek! A quick look at the FB group revealed that lots of other participants were having the same issue. So glad it wasn't just me!
Katie quickly commented to say the problem was probably our orange paint contained a lot of yellow (even though I was using cadmium orange as directed, albeit a different brand from Katie) She suggested adding red to the mix and that helped a little, but in the end I stopped using the orange all together. This meant the brown/grey I was meant to be mixing had a hint of lilac to it, problematic as a lot of the other shades we were mixing stemmed from the original mix, but with trial and error, I got there in the end.
It was a bit stressful and not as enjoyable as the previous two days, but a learning curve. I managed to make an approximation of the required colours because of colour knowledge I have, but I felt quite sorry for the beginners as they were really struggling and I commend them for soldiering on.
Tomorrow we are working on blending and adding texture and all I can say is the final day needs to be about how to produce a miracle because I think that's what it will take for this painting to look anything like it's supposed to!
D returned just as I finished painting. He had to go and collect the car as it was in Perth having some ceramic coating put on the paintwork.
Homemade chicken pasta bake for dinner then my weekly tussle with the online Tesco order.
As we had our evening cuppa we were aware that Lola was nowhere to be seen. Not hard to guess where she was. I went along the hall to Alan's Team's sitting room and there she was snuggled on the sofa beside Vickie, no doubt having had some treats. She wasn't chuffed at getting turfed off when Vickie wanted to go to bed! LOL!
