Which part of “stay in your lane” does this administration not understand?!
After grandstanding on annexing sovereign territories as if you were a kid on a playground stealing another kid’s candy, the administration now wants European companies who do business in the US to adopt its anti-DEI policies.
Several French companies (randomly selected apparently as not all of them actually do business with the US) received such a notice from the US embassy in Paris (which strangely couldn’t be reached for comments…). The note asks the companies to “respect the rules laid down by Trump… ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunities.” The funny thing of course is that DEI policies were put into place to avoid precisely what is happening all over the new government: a bunch of white guys put into positions for which they have zero qualifications over eminently qualified non-whites/females.
The reaction in France at this point is a resounding “eff off” to the request of providing, within 5 days, a form that certifies the French companies will comply with tRump’s policies. Our minister of economy stated that “while these policies reflect the values of the new administration, they do not reflect ours and we will remind our counterparts of that fact.”
Sometimes (more often than not nowadays) I am very proud of my French government (for those who do not know I am a dual citizen of France and the US…)
It’s amazing to me to realize now that so much of the world’s stability relied on “gentlemen agreements to play fair and by the same rules….” And how little it took for soulless, crooked mafiosos to take over.
