I got a gift from
the universe - a flock of
big horn sheep arrived!

I was up too early in the dark and had to wait for daylight so I could get some groceries and my photos. I left the house just before 7. The sky was grey and ominous. There was rain in the forecast.

The groceries were a simple matter. I had a very short list, so I was on my way with my camera in no time at all.

My thoughts were to drive out to the wetlands pond at Tranquille, but I didn't get that far. Suddenly, there were big horn sheep in my sights!

I spied a small herd of young ones up on the tracks above the roadway. I pulled on to the shoulder of the road and rolled down my window and turned off the radio. They considered me and were a little nervous, then the train suddenly appeared bearing down on them. The group scattered with some going up towards the hilltop and some standing firm watching the approaching train. In this location there is a fence between the road and the rail line. I wouldn't say they were trapped, but certainly confined.

I got a series of shots of the stalwart ones who gazed at the train while it streaked past. It made for some rather unusual photos.

At first I thought I might be about to witness a massacre as the train rolled up, but these sheep must be familiar with the iron beast. No lives were lost here.

I gratefully took my photos and headed for home on this grey, grim day.

I'm home with lots of loose ends to attend to.
