A time for everything

Afternoon bike ride

Friday
The temperature went a bit higher today, enough to entice us out on our bikes again, on our usual Little Miami bike trail, starting from Mathers Mill. 12.5 miles for me today, so a couple more than the last few times.
We had an early dinner, as we were going down to a Cincinnati Symphony Concert at Music Hall. It was an amazing concert. I had chosen it principally for Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade which featured in the second half. The first two pieces were relatively modern, and new to me, but both were wonderful. The first was Yukon Toyama’s Rhapsody for Orchestra, written in1960, and revised in 2001. Just 7 minutes long, it was rich with the atmosphere of Japanese folk songs. The highlight, maybe even more than Scheherazade, was Mexican born Marquez’s Fandango, a violin concerto in three movements, played sensationally by Anne Akiko Meyers, who received a standing ovation by many after just the first movement!
