A Name That Lives On
This photo rests on the table beside me when I sit on the sofa. I see it every day, but today, I saw it differently. It was meant to be my third BlipFoto.
This photo was given as a Christmas gift two years ago. The sketch was created from a photograph of my husband's uncle, Howard, the man he was named after.
Howard died in battle. He first fought in the Spanish Civil War, then enlisted with Britain to serve in World War II.
My husband never had the chance to meet him and knew little about him. It was his son who, after joining the Canadian military, became curious about the great-uncle, the man his father was named after.
Through his research, he discovered that Howard’s name is engraved on a plaque in Ottawa. As a surprise, his son took us to visit the memorial.
When I captured a photo of my husband and his son standing in front of the plaque, I felt deeply moved. It was a moment of connection. One that Uncle Howard would have appreciated, knowing he has not been forgotten and that his name lives on.
When we leave this world, we will never truly know the impact we've had or how we will be remembered. BlipFoto offers us something personal and meaningful. A way to preserve our stories for future generations.
