I took Archie round to the Links to meet his friends, John and Amanda, who were taking him for a walk. Once again he spotted he didn't spot them from afar, but their enthusiastic waving eventually caught his attention and he ran to them like a wee bullet. They set off with him, promising to return about 3pm.
We were due out for lunch with Anne & Bob, so a bus, then tram down to meet the others at the appointed place and just in time for our luncheon booking. We went to Harvey Nicks, they have a very nice new summer menu on. We gazed out on a splendid view of the fabulous old buildings, many of them wrapped in tarpaulins and scaffolding.
After lunch we popped in to see the main branch of our bank ( the local one has just closed) which is spectacular. There was a chap (staff member) wearing a kilt standing there, looking slightly bored, but Anne asked him something and he lit up and gave her a whole spiel about the building and showed us the whole story of the building in big graphics. Very interesting.
Then we popped in to Gleneagles Townhouse for a coffee. Another fabulous former bank. First we were shown to the very uncomfortable high chair sofa thingies, with no foot stand - impossibly uncomfortable (I knew from a previous experience) - so we tried the bar stools. You I really need a wee stepladder to get on to one, and made a failed attempt. Though I managed last time I was there... So we were shown to a proper table, with proper sized seats and I could keep my feet on the ground. Nice place though.
Tram and bus home, a new experience for the Jersey-ites, then out into the sunny back garden. Such a sun trap it is on days like this, though we had to keep moving to avoid the BIG shade caused the ginormous Canadian Pine tree a few gardens away.
Archie, Amanda and John joined us and so did Dougal and Christine. And I discovered a '60's Radio Station' what a find that was! It got quite competitive in naming what group/singer it was after the first few bars... (I was in charge of the volume knob). I think Amanda won, and she wasn't even around in the 60s, but she claims her parents played all those songs.
A great day all round!
