A fine day at the orchard

It may be a bit difficult to work out what is going on in my blip. This was the beginning of a workshop at the Dervaig Community Orchard (in glorious sunshine.) Seven of us were there to learn how to make a willow plant support for climbing plants such as peas, beans or sweet peas. It was great fun learning something new and it was a surprisingly physical task. Our tutor was a young Belgian woman who moved to north Mull about six or seven years ago and she and her husband are great assets to the community.
After several hours of making, several of us stayed to work in the orchard in the afternoon, planting onion sets in the raised beds and taking the first steps in the construction of a “Hobbit house” for the children who frequent the orchard. By the end of the afternoon some of us were very glad that one of our number had the forethought to book a table for six at the Bellachroy, the local hostelry which is now under new ownership. We had a lovely meal before heading home for an early night.
The extra shows several of the completed willow plant supports.
