Erythronium californicum 'White Beauty'

Today's the day . . . . . . . . . to remember

After all the glorious weather that we've been having recently, I suddenly remembered those erythroniums that I'd planted in a shady spot under the bushes and wondered if they had survived the winter?  I went to see - and, of course they had - in fact,  there were more of them than ever.

They belong to the lily family - although apparently they are also quite closely related to tulips.  They are indigenous in the main to North America and this particular one originated from Northern California, where the climate would be much more to their liking.  But thank goodness they do grow here - and without much attention from me.

They are such lovely delicate little flowers and it's always a pleasure to see them .................
