Lying in wait!

Spotted this spider building a web recently so went back today to see what progress had been made. The web is now complete and the spider has also tied two ivy leaves together with silk to form a little hiding place from which to wait on the arrival of its unfortunate prey.

It sits in the hiding place and sticks a couple of legs out to check the two lines of silk running from the hiding place to the web. Any vibration from the web is transmitted along these two lines and is picked up by the legs touching the ends attached to its den. A bit like a fisherman waiting for a catch.
