Musing of a Lady

Heartbreaking

Last night was filled with a heartbreaking scene. The house just next to us, a beautiful 18th century farmhouse caught fire and almost completely burnt down. The fire caught in the thatch roof just before 9 o'clock in the evening. Nobody was injured, thank goodness. The first I knew about it was when I heard the first fire engine arrive. I went outside, to get a film for Little Man, thinking that the fire engine was going to drive past. However, it didn't. Then I saw the flames. In the course of the next four hours or so, the entire house burned. To start with the firefighters tried to put the fire out but in the end they were forced to focus on containing it to the farmhouse. I didn't end up going to bed until after 1 o'clock in the morning as the activity outside kept me awake. For a photo of the blaze, click here.

Little Man slept through the night's events and woke up, ready for a new day. I showed him some of the photos I took and then we went round to look at the damage in the cold light of day (that's when I took this photo).

We stayed home and relaxed. I've spent the day trying to stay awake as I don't function well on little sleep, and I spent a good amount of time debating about going to life group tonight. It's going to be a late night and I don't think I'm make it through, so I've decided to stay home and get an early night.
