Greylag Geese
This morning I had a long stomp through the Itchen Valley. I thought it was deserved after my rather patchy walks of late and was extra pleased when I caught up with this pair. I've not seen greylags so close to Winchester before. I'd love to think we'll also see their chicks later, but I'm guessing they may just be in transit and nesting elsewhere. Still, you never know! Handsome birds, aren't they?
I also saw more butterflies: Speckled Woods, a male Orange Tip and a Tortoiseshell - plus a singing Cetti's Warbler (sadly against the light which made getting a decent shot hopelessly hard), two more reed buntings and the first of the returning sedge warblers.
Of course I got back rather tired, so the rest of the day's been a bit lazy. But then although it was coldish when I left the house this morning it's currently 20 degrees so who wants to do too much slogging?
Finally, just to remind those interested, you only have tomorrow and Sunday to get in your entries for #WFW25_01. On Monday we will be rolling over to #WFW25_02.
Have a happy evening xx
