I had my favourite
drive over the grasslands in
dazzling sunshine
~carliewired
I pushed my bins out to the street just before 7, then I was on my way to Rosehill on the southeast side of the city. The sun was already ahead of me so I drove with my hand shielding my eyes until I climbed high enough above the city.
I stopped to get a panorama of the valleys from the downtown to the edge of Mt. Paul. I stopped again on the rise where I could look across to the tops of Mt. Paul and Mt. Peter. At the first landing I caught 5 does grazing in the meadow. The higher elevations seen behind them still hold snow. Our major ski resort, Sun Peaks, is having its last weekend of downhill skiing for this season. (The upper levels highway to the coast had some snow overnight.)
At the summit, the temperature was a chilly 2 C. Coming down the west slope I can see across the grasslands. I love those views.
I found some magpies who were very interested in something amid the birch trees. One stalwart Canada goose stood on the top of a machinery shed looking into the morning sun. I noticed a mate patrolling the ground around the shed.
I was soon back on the highway and rolling back down into the city. I was home before the garbage truck returned for the 2nd bin.
I'm looking forward to having coffee with a friend this afternoon. We haven't spoken since last fall.
