Viaduct
En route to Chorley, I stopped off in Preston for a riverside walk.
Turning left out of the station, I was soon at Penwortham New Bridge, the first of five crossings of the River Ribble that I would encounter in the next couple of hours. Staying on the north bank, I walked upriver to Penwortham Old Bridge, where I crossed to the opposite bank. They have clearly been investing in new flood defence works, which means much of this stretch of the riverside is hidden behind concrete flood walls, but you can pop your head over the top for a view.
I explored some of the paths and open land on that side before continuing along to the bridge pictured (more context in extra): the Preston Railway Viaduct. If you’ve ever traveled on the West Coast Mainline through Preston, you have been over this bridge. Then it was along to Avenham Park Bridge where, after admiring some of the street art underneath (extra), I crossed back over the river. I had a quick look around the park before making my way back to the station to continue my journey, and indeed to go back over the viaduct.
In Chorley I paid a Record Store Day visit to Malcolm’s Musicland. I’d like to say it wasn’t premeditated, but I had indeed researched the list of RSD special releases, so had some idea of what I was looking for. The early morning rush had died down, but they still had plenty of RSD stock, including a few of the things on my long list (although sadly, not the Melys album).
Then onto the football, meeting up with Sister #2 and family, to watch Nephew #3 (wearing #2) and his team mates take on visitors Marine. Even better, it was Great-nibling #3’s day to accompany his Dad onto the field as a mascot (extra). The game didn’t really catch fire, and ended goalless. Chorley are still in the National League North play-off spots with a few games to go, but it will be a tense end to the season.
