Life is a Challenge!

A BUSY DAY SO I NEED SOME OF THAT REST!

You all know by now that I go to our Church Community Fridge each Thursday, but before I went today, I looked out of our bedroom window and saw Mr. HCB out in the garden.  He told me he was out there before 8 o’clock this morning as he wanted to weed our long bed before it got too warm.  However, it takes some doing because it is heavy clay - and despite having quite a lot of rain in the last couple of days, he said it was hard work.

As I’m not driving at the moment, I went to the Community Fridge on the bus and it worked out very well.  Mr. HCB says he is happy to take me, but I have told him I need to be independent, so off I went.  I had a lovely conversation with a lady sitting next to me and was able to bless several people, including the two bus drivers with a little wooden heart, so that was good.

Instead of being in the kitchen today at the Community Fridge, I was asked to help with the weighing and logging on the desk, which I was happy to do.  It is always good to be able to interact with our customers, and of course, we know many of them very well, as they are mostly regulars.  We had one new lady, so when it was my turn to have a break from the desk, I got myself a cup of coffee and went into the café to have a chat with her.

She came from Scotland, near Dumfries, so I was able to tell her I had a friend up there (take a bow, Nadine!) and had been looking at travelling to Scotland on the train, but it would cost something like £350 return!!  Quite eye-watering - especially as it was only £51 to fly!  She was impressed with the Community Fridge and café and I think she will be back.

You can see we had lots of good things and it would not be a lie to say that we had Hot Cross Buns “coming out of our ears!”  Despite telling our customers they could have 3 packs, there were still in excess of 200 packets left at the end of the session, which all had to be moved from one room to another to be stored.  It was a good job that Mr. HCB came to pick me up - he was a great help, along with two or three of our customers, who always help with the clearing up and the moving and putting away of chairs.  I just hope that the Mums from Pram Club like Hot Cross Buns when they meet tomorrow morning!

Last but not least, is the lovely Meg - in her “lurve” glasses - she always has a cheery word for the customers, and the children love her because she has a box of sweeties that she shares with them.

It was a long morning and we are just about to go out and deliver a Bag of Hope.  It is great to be able to do all this, and we need to deliver it today because tomorrow and Saturday I will be on my own because Mr. HCB is off to cricket - so I just hope the weather holds.  I am going to do some more decluttering - and am determined to be ruthless - well I will try my hardest!  Time will tell!
