Kangaroo

Today was the day of our tour to the Blue Mountains with tour guide Steve of Activity Tours Australia. We started the day at Featherdale Wildlife Park where we got to see Kangaroos, koalas, dingos, wombats, crocodiles, kookaburras and more. We fed kangaroos and pet koalas which was really awesome!! At one point I had four or five kangaroos eating out of my hands! I think now when I have goats I need to have kangaroos, too! We met Don, the oldest koala at the park at 13-years old and later we met Austin. Who were also adorable. Loved walking around the park. I could've spent all day there feeding kangaroos.

After we left the park I volunteered to throw a boomerang. I didn't get it to come back to me but it did turn around and try to come back. Now at least I know what I'm supposed to do. Gotta practice that!

The tour brought us through to Gordon Falls Lookout overlooking the Blue Mountains and then to lunch in Leura. Then we headed around to look at The Three Sisters of the Blue Mountains and ride the scenic railway through them. We went on the "coaster of death" as Steve the tour guide would call it which declined at a 52 degree angle through the mountains.

Finished up the day with a quick stop at the site of the Sydney Olympic Games where we saw what held the Olympic torch. Around it were the names of anyone who medaled in the 2000 Olympic Games, including Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, and Julie Foudy which almost made me more excited than feeding kangaroos. Ended the tour with a ferry ride on the River Cat back to Circular Quay.

Ate dinner at a yummy Italian restaurant, The Italian Village, Wolfies, Waterfront. The restaurant had three names. Jenn stopped by quick so we finally saw her later in the night!

Things I learned:
- a group of kangaroos is called a mob
- kangaroo might mean I don't know or I don't understand in aboriginal culture
- the three sisters is an ancient tale about a father who turned his three daughters into stone so they would be safe while he fought against those who wanted to marry them. He died in the battle and was never able to turn them back.
