Das blauen Haus

On the banks of the Saar whilst riding to Mettlach, a return trip of about 25 miles. Diana did much better on this ride than on the one to Trier. She kept pace with the group and managed to cycle up all but 1 hill. Some of the hills were fairly long and steep so she did really well.

Mettlach was nice but did see to be little more than a collection of ice cream parlours, restaurants and Villeroy and Boch outlet stores. Of course the latter was very appealing to Diana and Coral. Less so to Mick and I.

We had our best beer of the holiday so far. An Erdinger here dunkel. Really tasty. If I can find that in the supermarket I plan to take a crate home. Even with the deposit that you have to pay on the bottles over here, the beer is still cheap.

Coral is having many blond moments this holiday despite being a red head. Perhaps the best one came yesterday when she and Diana were struggling to cycle up the hill into a little village on the way back from Mettlach. An elderly gentleman who was in his front garden came out onto the street and said something to them in German and Coral's reply was 'sorry I don't speak English! He was naturally very confused :-)
