Tree Alert!

On my walk with Russet this morning, I started to look closely at the trees we passed. One or two healthy ash trees were pleasing to see (seed picture), but a horse chestnut was obviously suffering from Leaf Miner Moth (looked it up on the Woodland Trust website), and these malformed acorns are caused by an Acorn gall wasp! They look horrible in contrast with the healthy acorns, to be found on the same tree.
This gall wasp lays its eggs in developing acorns in early summer......and no control is available, according to my book on pests and diseases.
Rather depressing news for trees !
