Staveley - near Kendal

Had to go here to get my bike fixed. While they attended to it I went for a walk by the River Kent. This is the remains of a weir that was used by the textile mills that used the river. We are looking at the exterior of Wilf's café - good place for lunch, coffee etc. I'd recommend the Vegetarian Chilli. It looks a bit like a transport café but appearances deceive. The same small industrial estate harbours a brewery and a very good bakery - as well as Wheelbase Cycles and other delights.
