Cuckmere Haven

This afternoon I joined Brighton midweek walking group for the first time - they meet every other week for a two hour walk, and each walk is at a different venue. This weeks' walk was at Cuckmere Haven which is not far from Beachy Head, and is an area of flood plains where the River Cuckmere meets the English Channel.

As I wasn't sure of the area, one of the regular ladies kindly offered to give me a lift, and we all met at a pub at the side of the river. We walked across the fields, to the very edge of the village of Seaford and then up a hill and walked along the cliffs and then down to the beach at Cuckmere Haven.

This shot is taken looking down on the beach and across to the Seven Sisters Cliffs. Apparently this beach was used in the opening scene of Kevin Costner's Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, and the Cliff face was used in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. After a brief stop, we walked along the side of the river and ended up back at the pub where we had a quick drink before heading home.

It's been a lovely afternoon and everyone was very friendly, so I'll definitely be joining them again. It's not fast paced as they're a 'Walk & Talk' group which is nice, and there was plenty of time for me to stop to take photos - as you can see by the blue sky and the colour of the sea, it's been another lovely day!

Take a closer look at the sea.
