No competition

Today started with Richard heading off early to organise/host/sponsor/set up the surf contest for youngsters in Croyde.

I downloaded a book on Kindle, read the first chapter and was completely put off after just one chapter. I should NOT have trusted the reviews! The writing made me itch it was so not my thing. I then downloaded JK Rowling's Casual Vacancy instead - which by comparison has a remarkably great number of unenthusiastic reviews because - it seems - it is not Harry Potter... Tsk...
Really...

Then I checked on the garden, made Tess a bowl of porridge and got myself a coffee and then got in the shower. Just after I got in, Tess hammered on the bathroom door to say the dog had thrown up.
I finished showering, got dressed and headed downstairs to survey the damage.
The little bugger had thrown up at Tess's feet as she was trying to have breakfast, so she'd covered the evidence with kitchen towel and tried to continue eating.

I cleaned the carpet and sorted out Tess (Richard was coming back to get her to take part on the surfing at Croyde), dried my hair and forced down some toast.
Then I made some sarnies for Richard and Tess and they headed down to the beach for the rest of the day.

And then I did this:
Filled up the pond
Fed and walked the dog
Had an extremely light stand up lunch
Said "Hello, How was your weekend?" to Gemma (she seems to have spent two days playing board games in a cottage with 3 friends)
Tidied the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher, etc...
Harvested tomatoes from the greenhouse
Aired yesterday's washing
Deadheaded some plants
Harvested some runner beans
Harvested some French beans
Collected seeds
Cleaned the loo
Watered some veg beds with nematodes
Fed some plants
Fed the tomatoes
Did a bit of watering
Made a cup of tea
Drank half of the tea really quickly with a ginger biscuit
Fed and walked the dog again
Got pizza and stuff heated up and ready for returning hungry child
Dug up some potatoes
Welcomed home Richard and Tess and tried to get a photo of Tess wearing a medal but she was too tired and grumpy.
Washed and chopped potatoes
Chopped beans
Drank wine
Sank into a chair and sighed loudly
Said "Goodnight to Tess."
Ate dinner (very nice hake with smoked garlic and garden veg)
Kind of heard bits on and off throughout the rest of the evening about how Richard's day had gone (still not sure how he managed to come home with smoked garlic, but it's very nice). It sounds like the day went really well and there was a great turnout, good surf, lovely weather and everyone had a good time. The emphasis was on having fun and making sure no one feels like a loser.

Watched TV
Ate half a bar of Green & Black's dark chocolate
