The Lorton Yew
THERE is a yew-tree, pride of Lorton Vale,
Which to this day stands single, in the midst
Of its own darkness, as it stood of yore… Wm Wordsworth, 'Yew Trees'.
Possibly 1,000 years old, it suffered damage a few years ago by storm, and currently I found that to take a shot of the whole tree was disappointing, as there are all sorts of garden rubbish placed around and against the main trunk. Pity. But worth a visit. The sun came out a little later as we were visiting again the 1734 cottage in Low Lorton that had been our home for 22 years.
