typically, the first time I pick up a soldering iron in years and I have to deal with these little so'n'so's.

seems that I did o.k. as the device ( an add-on to the raspberry pi ) seems to be working.

Anyway, the title was appropriate in another manner as the rest of the day seemed to revolve around plumbing and shouting at the stupidity of the builders of our new house who seemed to have omitted to provide a stop-cock within the building. Cue a plumber with a big metal stick to turn the water off at the pavement.

A short while later, cue much cursing as said stop-cock was found.

So replacement washing machine in and broadband installed (finally!)
