Election Day
Today's the day! After weeks of campaigning, after years of Labor in-fighting and hundreds of political gaffes from the Libs, we finally cast our vote.
Today was the first time I've voted in Australia - I was in London for the last general election and voted there - and also the first time I've voted in Melbourne, a seat where my vote actually counts. The big competition was Labor and although a lot of people were predicting a loss for the Greens, they were wrong. Tony Abbott is our PM and the Coalition has demolished Labor nationally, but thankfully Melbourne has kept Adam Bandt as a voice of reason in the Lower House. I'm so, so relieved.
I also had my work trial today and it went pretty well - I like the place and it wasn't too crazy busy, but it wasn't too quiet either. I think I'll get a few shifts there, which is good! The only bad thing about it is I banged my knee on one of the outside benches and it's now a bit swollen and very bruised, so I've spent all afternoon and evening icing it. Why am I so clumsy?!
Dad took our Adam Bandt poster down from his window so I could get an election day photo. I think Australia is in for a bad few years, and I'm so lucky to be in an electorate where my rights are looked after. Well done, Melbourne.
