Between fen and mountains

Nearly home

Today was a more ambitious walk to try to continue to improve my fitness. It took eight hours and took us up to within two hours of the pic du Canigou and involved 1,140 metres of ascent, about 450 metres more than the last walk. The knees held up just but maybe tomorrow will be another story! It was a beautiful climb but not without incident. We took an old and little used path back which involved some scrambling. After an hour we were faced with a 100 metre steep scree slope to cross. One of the ladies had to sit down as the scree moved beneath her. Each time she moved she slid a little. Gradually she managed to slide herself across to larger and firmer stones. It was rather alarming but there was no real danger of her continuing her slide. On there way back there were some spectacular views including this one from high above the cascade des Anglais. I blipped it last month from the more usual viewpoint.
