New Ski Slope Nears Completion

Well not exactly…………..

……………….perhaps the two chimney stacks give it away. This is the energy recovery facility (waste incinerator) at Four Ashes, Nr Wolverhampton nearing completion. As part of my duties I attended a liaison meeting tonight and was given the grand tour of the plant. We were regaled with interesting information, including that the roof was partly living, covered by a carpet of sedum plants. It will divert the residual waste from 100,000s of homes from landfill to its facility where it will generate large amounts of electricity for the national grid.

In my time in the profession opinion has moved towards, away from and then back towards the use of incineration as a means of dealing with the waste society produces. One things for certain, the aesthetics of the buildings have changed in that time. At one time they were even considering the stacks being angled to further add to the unique design.
