Hirundines

I remember a quiz question. Sand and House Martins are members of which bird family? We answered Hirundines and were marked wrong!! According to the quizmaster the answer was Swallows! Mmmm Hey Ho!

So we're at Letham Pools. Yesterday it was just me, but today I've managed to get Mrs L out too. She's been a bit off colour since our outing at the end of August to see the Spotted Crake at Netherfield Lagoons. Obviously me seeing the Crake and her not, really must have upset her! Anyway the enticement of a nice roadside site and her first ever Temminck's Stint were enough to tempt her out.

Unfortunately the Temminck's Stint was even more distant than yesterday, but Mrs L got her lifer, and she took this photo of the impressive flock of Hirundines gathering on the fence that runs through the pool.
