Tonight we'll speak of many things...

Of curtain rods and finials, of corner bends and passing rings.

So this morning TSM and I went for some early morning exercise; and then we did the garden and the dump. The raised bed is now full of broccoli and cauliflower plants that apparently will winter well and harvest in early spring. We'll see.

The afternoon was a very long and tiring business. Putting up curtain rods with bends in bay windows and balls on their ends, cantankerous brackets and the tiniest of allen keys. Already tired from shoveling and humping, by the end of the day I was simply exhausted.

A finial apparently was originally a decorative crenelation on a battlement or atop some other building, designed to stop witches landing their broomsticks on your rooftops. Then they started putting them on flagpoles and now on curtain poles.

Very British that, to reduce something fantastical to the level of the mundane and domestic...
