Eglise de Saint Martin l'Astier

This little Romanesque church sits by the River Isle just north of Mussidan in the Dordogne. Its nave dates from the 9th century and its octagonal tower - apparently unique in the Dordogne - from the 12th. The tower hosts the chapel cum choir, all decorated with very simple cushion capitals. It sits very comfortably in the countryside, surrounded by fields of sunflowers, trees and the river. Idyllic.
