Hello Everyone! Did you miss me?
Well, I certainly missed you guys :) I didn't realise it, but I also missed that vital and special link with the city and it's people, through this project.
I have to admit though, that I was a little nervous going out today, not having taken a stranger portrait (apart from on holiday) since July! While we are on the topic of holidays, I took a few stranger portraits and I've uploaded them, starting here, in case anyone is interested in seeing them.
Onto today's portrait then.
I spotted Moishe from afar when he asked a passer-by something. He was stood next to a Salford van, one of those open ones at the back. It had a make-shift wooden hut on it, and was open from the front and covered with branches and leaves as a roof.
I asked him what he was doing and he explained the religious significance of the Sukkah (the hut). The festival commemorates the years which the Israelites' spent wandering the desert, living in makeshift dwellings. Jewish families live in these temporary huts that they build out of branches and leaves, and each day they hold celebrations with different types of plants.
I learnt quite a lot about the festival today, and I think it made a perfect introduction back into my series.
