A year in Canada

Day 41 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

Halifax is very popular with cruise ships, at one point we saw three docked at once! Today there were two very large ones – the Eurodam (seen in the background of this photo) and the Queen Mary 2. You can always tell when the large cruise ships are docked, as the town is a lot busier, and all the fancy restaurants are full!

Samuel Cunard, founder of the famous Cunard Shipping Line was born here in Halifax in 1787, hence the statue. It’s a shame that the Queen Mary 2 was not docked where the Eurodam is (i.e in my photo behind Mr Cunard), as the QM2 is of course part of the Cunard Line.

Today was mainly an admin day. We managed to successfully obtain our SIN numbers (equivalent to National Insurance / Social Security) which will allow us to work, and we also set up a bank account. We feel like real Canadians now!
