I had the pleasure of meeting up with a talented fellow blipper and photographer MrJohn today. He normally comes into town with the intention of taking street portraits so we set-off towards the city centre, 'on the hunt' as we like to put it :)
I was challenged to find a suitable portrait in the market part of town, which I have to admit is always a bit daunting for me. His choice of subjects is somewhat different to mine and it's strange how we're both comfortable asking some people but not others - the result after all is going to be the same. We touched upon this and I suspect it's psychological in nature - who knows.
Anyway, I wasn't able to meet the challenge this time around but by the end of the day I had captured a couple of art students, a toddler, a dog, some tourists and finally Ben here, on MrJohn's recommendation :)
I had to chase after him initially as he didn't hear me. Maybe the hair absorbs the sound? I kid of course, he looked like he had to be somewhere. After tapping him on the shoulder and startling him a little I explained the project and he agreed straightaway.
The midday sun was placed directly behind him and luckily it produced a pleasing golden effect with his big hair. I only managed to snap four shots in all, none of which I was truly happy with except this (even though I'd have prefered him looking directly at the camera). The catchlight, I assume, was off a light source reflecting the sun back into his face.
I really enjoyed the photography walk today, it was nice to talk photography while doing something we obviously enjoy and feed off. It also creates some healthy competition in terms of finding the 'ideal' portrait and subjects, which is great fun. I look forward to meeting MrJohn again and other blippers in the future.
