Still going strong
I must be the very last gardening blipper to capture this year's Japanese Anemones. They have been in flower for a couple of months and lighten up the dark base of a hedge. They look as though they have a few more weeks in them yet.
I remember we used these flowers in an experiment at school. We stood them in a jar of water to which a large quantity of red dye had been added, and watched as over the course of a few days the flowers turned pink. When I see the garish unnatural colours of some of the flowers in the florist I wonder whether the growers had the same lesson!
