Acclamation

This is Stephane Deneve who is the conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, a graduate of the Paris Conservatoire, acknowledging the applause after a concert at the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall tonight.
Stephane enjoys a world-wide reputation, appearing all over the globe with top orchestras and soloists. He also works at Tanglewood and elsewhere with young musicians, contributing to their development.

The programme in Nottingham consisted of two works - Mozart's Violin Concerto No 5 - the 'Turkish', in which the soloist was Henning Kraggerud from Norway, who. is not only an acclaimed violinist with a world-wide reputation but also a professor at the music conservatoire in Oslo, and a conductor in his own right.

The second work was the prodigious 80 minutes-long Symphony no 6 by Mahler, with which I am
unfamiliar, but which really produced an extraordinary performance from a very large orchestra. Quite overwhelming and stunning actually, although my personal preference would be for more conventional works (more 'tuneful' and memorable is what I mean) - stick-in-the-mud conservative that I am. That is conservative with a small c, by the way!!!)

An enjoyable evening nonetheless with a packed house and an enthusiastic audience.
