Contrasty Saddell Bay

Not quite 4 seasons in one day but certainly lots of variations in the weather, which turned out a bit better than forecast.

While on my early morning run to the beach the sky remained mostly grey and released some heavy showers. Took some blips of the sun's rays breaking through the clouds over the Kilbrannan Sound, but they were rather far away and didn't turn out that great. As a result, I made the most of some mid-afternoon sunshine to drive the short distance to Saddell Bay in the hope of some autumn colour and blue skies. Although Saddell is a very small community with only a handful of houses it has an old abbey, a castle that is being restored and a large country house, which is now managed by the Landmark Trust.

As I walked down the long tree lined avenue that leads to the castle it became obvious that the sun was going to be spending more times behind the clouds than illuminating the landscape. It was only when I reached the bay that the sun appeared and lit up patches of land and sea. With it being low in the sky the colours produced were rich and strong with lots of bright light and shadows. Just the contrasty conditions I was after. Only problem was the next dark cloud was rolling in from the west so there was no time to hang around.

By the time I got back to the car the rain was on. It was a case of making hay blips while the sun shone!
