Den Wood, Aberdeenshire

This afternoon we went for an exploratory walk in Den Wood (Woodland Trust) near Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire. Beyond the wood the sun was very bright, but the wood itself was rather 'tulgey', though we didn't see a single Jabberwock. Helen chose this shot of Bracket Fungus on an old Silver Birch for my/our Blip today.

We aren't up in fungi, yet, but I think this might be of the Ganoderma family. There were some other similar ones around.

The wood is an old mixed deciduous relic of the one-time Estate which became the present Meldrum House Hotel (still a room available for tonight at £180, which I think includes Breakfast!) We, however, went home to a fine evening meal and a bottle of cheap Red from Lidl. But we are are definitely going to explore more of Den Wood!
