I was back hard at work today, writing reports, emailing clients, preparing invoices, etc. etc. etc.
But I finally got back to looking at some of your blips. You all take my breath away at the incredible photographs that you take. I love the variety and wealth of artistry, technique, personality and genuineness (is that a word?) that each of your photos have. I feel as if I am privileged to share in a part of your lives.
That is why I was so dismayed today when I read a dear friend's blip. She had been repeatedly criticized for the theme of her journal by one person. And she has been hurt by this. So, I did some quiet investigating (oh yeah, did I tell you that I do a lot of that in my work?). The person criticizing is not constructive but rude and totally disrespectful of her amazing body of work. I was appalled!
I realize that blipfoto means different things to different people. We all blip for different reasons. Some want to improve their photography, some want to share their lives, and some want to improve their ego. Personally, I don't care. This is a fantastic community of people, and I love you all for your encouragement, honesty and willingness to be vulnerable.
I think the key to all of this is RESPECT! I may not always agree with your idea of art, but I respect that you have given of yourself to share your idea and I respect the outcome of your idea. And I hope that you will respect mine. If you have a different idea, I welcome your comments.
Forgive me for my rant tonight, but I don't want to see blipfoto go the way of Facebook and others.
Well, back to the trenches for me. I have a report due early tomorrow morning.
Have a wonderful weekend all.
