Right next door to our new bakery another business is preparing to launch:
Luna Cycles Sales and Repairs, opening soon.
It would be nice to think this one will last longer that the two previous bike outlets in Fishguard.

Above the newly painted facade you can just see the faded old sign for Y Goleudy/The Lighthouse, a charity shop than closed a several years ago. It's great to see old premises re-opening although there are a worrying number of antique shops springing up in the town. I heard of two more today which will make five in total.

Since this is remembrance weekend I'd like to add a link to a short blog piece that's a bit of an eye-opener where bicycles are concerned. Britain and several other countries once had cycling regiments. In 1908 they were being recommended on the following basis.

The cyclist does not suffer from sore feet, nor does his mount ever get out of condition. The longer a campaign lasts the fitter the cyclist becomes. When on the move the cyclist offers a much smaller and at the same time more difficult target to hit than even the infantryman. He can ride behind hedges with body bent low and remain invisible…It may also perhaps be of interest to note that the great majority of cyclists are practically teetotallers.

I'm not sure about the final statement but recruiting posters in Britain urged
Are you fond of cycling? If so, why not cycle for the King? Bad teeth no bar.

[OK, this is my 1100th blip but please, please, keep any impulse to congratulate to yourselves - I have only just recovered from my 1095th. Just don't mention it.]
