Another day, another wild Gyr chase

Tricia arrived back last night after eight hours on a very rough Oban to Lochboisdale crossing. I didn't enjoy the hour drive down to Lochboisdale in the conditions so imagine the boat must have been a little interesting. It was exciting enough for Calmac at one stage to think of stopping at Barra and not coming on up to South Uist.
This morning however was blue skies and whilst there was still a wind, it wasn't rattling the house as previously. Off we went to Balemore and had another look for the elusive Gyr. Fence posts were surveyed but the closest we got proved to be a white fishing buoy resting on a post.
Squalls started passing through and so when we got back to the car, we headed for home. The light was that interesting mix of sun and heavy cloud when suddenly Clattraval was spotlighted - not somewhere I suspect the MOD like it being. That said it forms part of our chain of radar defence and so is not offensive - in either sense of the word! On Remembrance Day either way I don't care.
On home via Baleshare where our reward was a boot full of driftwood for the fire and stunning views of a male Hen Harrier. There is always something to see in the Western Isles. Perhaps the rebranding of the isles of last year was not too far off the truth - Experience Life on the Edge was the strap line.
