Spoons

These two traditional Welsh Love Spoons are usually hanging on my wall in the kitchen.
The top one was given to me by my friend over 20 years ago who lived in Treorchy in South Wales the other was from my Youngest Sister who lives in Gwynedd North Wales.
According to Welsh folklore the spoon is crafted from a single piece of wood by young men as a love token. For their sweethearts.
To show his effection and his intentions for a loved one.
The earliest surviving love spoon is displayed in the Welsh folk museum in Cardiff dating back to around 1667.
I think they have lost their meaning over the years and can be handcrafted for most occasions these days or just as a souvenir.
