Disturbing Their Peace
Has been quiet on the East Kintyre blipping front of late, probably as much to do with being in a creative trough as the less than inspiring weather. I have even had the wee compact with me on my runs but everything just seems grey and monotone, which isn't my scene.
The early morning run now means I reach the beach not long after sunrise and am the first person to step on the sand after the overnight rain and tide has wiped away all traces of yesterday's visitors. The first thing I noticed today was the number of gulls. Last winter there were less than a hundred. This year there are several hundred all spending the night roosting on the shoreline. Goodness knows where they all came from, but I do know they spend most of the day feeding on nearby farmland before returning to the beach at dusk.
This morning I disturbed their early morning routine and they took flight on seeing me. Not the colourful daybreak I would have liked, but still beautiful in its own way.
