CAN SPARROWS THINK?
Curiously, the actions of this little ball of a sparrow make me wonder if some animals are smarter than their counterparts - if one out of hundreds (or thousands) has the base ability to reason or think. All other birds - sparrows and otherwise – act only on instinct and reflex: they fly in, eat, and fly away and they disappear at the hint of any sound or motion. This one little bird does it differently as though he has been able to figure out that this is a wonderful, warm place in the sun with plenty of food. He sits on this feeder all day long, and even naps (or maybe he’s just resting with his eyes shut). This ledge can be filled with other birds who have come to eat, and this sparrow doesn’t flex a feather. He doesn’t chase them off – he’s just happy in his own little world. They require so much more food because they burn up so many calories flitting & flying around, while this guy just doesn’t need so much. He has taken up residence (at least during the day) every day, and he’s done it for two or three weeks now. This action is not phenomenal, yet it does show some ability to see his world differently, which causes him to act different than all other birds.
