Keeping an eye on the time
One of our clocks has died so we decided to treat ourselves to a new clock for our newly decorated living room. Decided we wanted a proper clock so where better to go than the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham - a fascinating place - loads of designers and manufacturing jewellers as well as lots of history. It's a pity the planners decided to demolish some of it and replace it with small factory units but I suppose they, too, have their place in history.
Anyway, we found a clock case maker and ended up spending over an hour with him in his workshop discussing what we wanted. Well, that was an experience! We eventually decided that we would like a mechanical clock that sort of pings on the hour, and it will have a combined glass and yew case which will expose all the workings of the clock. Exciting! And we will have to wind it up! How cool is that! The Engineer in Super Handyman Husband was well impressed.
THEN we met Henry the German Pointer taking up the chair in the office cum shop at the front of the premises so the day improved even more.
Okay, the working part of the clock is German, but everything else will be sourced/made in the Jewellery Quarter and we will have our own little bit of history - probably by Christmas. A good way to start the countdown through Advent to Christmas.
