What is art
We spent the afternoon at the Institute of Arts to take a look at the acclaimed work of Noriko Furunishi.
She photographs landscapes from multiple angles with a traditional 4x5 format camera, then scans the slides and stitches them in Photoshop to create huge, vertical studies in texture. They are remarkable to me in the sense that I know how much work they took. Not so remarkable is the fact that her technique of photo collage is not seamless as advertised and even if her creative vision was to leave ragged edges and visible erase lines, they, together with the trumped up, hoity artspeak about what it's supposed to mean simply elicits a tepid response from me.
What is art? It is what it is what you want it to be what they say it is
whatever. Really.
