Red and black spider
Ambicodamus crinitus. Family Nicodamidae
Another imaginatively named creature... nothing wrong with telling it like it is, I guess.
This spider is much smaller than it looks (less than 10mm across) and I have never seen one before. It was on a gum tree next to my drive, that I often look at closely, for signs of funny red leaf hopper things that absolutely covered it one year. Literally you could not see the bark for them. Never seen any since then though.
I suppose this spider is a bit christmassy?
