Diary of an Edinburgher

Paradise!

Today we set off at 6am for a long drive to the coast. So I didn't mind quite so much my noisy pal across the field with his loudspeaker at 5am. What a drive. Great to get a little snapshot of people's lives as we pass through villages bustling in the early morning and more sitting around in the heat of the day.

Maree made sure she had her fire extinguisher and reflective triangles in case of breakdown, which are compulsory. Mind you, in all the many breakdowns we've seen, it's usually branches put out on the road - maybe not so effective at night. Sure enough, we got stopped by the police and they were checked.

Breakfast by a big old baobab tree a couple of hours later - ham, cheese, French bread, coffee. Maree is a well organised tour leader.

What fantastic scenery - huge mountains all the way. We saw Kilimanjaro on the way, but the other ranges are impressive too. Vast fields of sisal.

After Tanga, a turn off to Fish Eagle Point. 10km of dirt track. But we've settled in to our hut right on the beach! We've been for a cold beer. The driver had two. She deserved them. This is the view from bar. It also has wifi!! We have three nights here. I think we're going to enjoy it, even though it will mean appearing in public in swimming togs...
