Bromeliad Blossom

This large bromeliad has been in our garden for about 4 years now. We've gotten about 8 plants from this momma plant. This is the first time it has bloomed, and the bloom has now lasted since August! One of the "babies" from this plant in another garden bloomed in July as well, and that flower is still going strong. These are wonderful plants. They love the sunshine, require very little maintenance and the watery center provides a wonderful hiding place for frogs and lizards.

Underneath all that foliage is a little pond where tadpoles grow into frogs in the warmer months. I simply can't bring myself to cut all of the excess away.
