Road Closed
The water is receding but the main road is still closed for the fifth day. I saw the tops of crocuses poking out through the floodwater, rather lovely in the morning sun.
I popped down to the Isis Farmhouse, accessed from the towpath by stepping stones, where they have a notch on the bar showing the flood mark from the 1947 floods. Things could have been so much worse - Jonathan, the owner, told us that this time they'd had just an couple of centimetres of water in the bar - 45cm below the 1947 flood mark. The place was full, although somewhat steamy as it was still drying out.
Here a picture of Oxford in the Great Thames Flood of 1947 - I can see my road in the darker patch at the right - even then it didn't flood, although it was rather cut off. Maybe we should get a boat.
Let's hope we can all get back to normal soon.
